August 23, 2012

Anthony:   Vacation has come and gone already.  Pics are here.   Third grade has begun.  Back to the books.  Soon, I'll be playing soccer again.  That means Halloween is around the corner...then Christmas....then 2013.  Before you know it, I'll be driving.   OK, I've said enough.   So, back to vacation.  It was the usual LONG drive down.  We stopped at a hotel the first night...or so I'm told.  I don't really recall.  Although I think I walked to the room....sleep walked, that is.

Then we drove another several hours to meet Nana and Papa and Shawn and Bella at Disney...or the general area.  We got a bite to eat in Downtown Disney across the street from our hotel, then got a few hours sleep before heading out for Day 1:  Universal Studios Islands of Adventure.  We got there so early and in the off season (when only crazy Americans and Europeans on "holiday" go to Florida) so the lines were pretty short.  We walked right on the Hulk coaster to start the day and I loved it.  I don't think I knew how fast or scary it would be, but it didn't stop me from ending the day with Daddy and Uncle Shawn riding it one last time at dusk.

We ride a few more rides, then went to Harry Potter world...or whatever it's called.  We rode another really loopy coaster that made Mommy really sick.  So, we went to Jurassic Park to cool off.  Mommy slept on the floor (sitting up) while we played, named baby dinos, and generally enjoyed the indoor part of that section of the park.   That was just the first day.

Day 2 started with breakfast with the Disney characters like we did a couple years ago.  Dom and I got our Mickey's autographed by Mickey!  After breakfast, we drove to Kennedy Space Center where we saw lots of cool NASA stuff.  Rockets, space suits, capsules.  You name it, it was there...except for a shuttle.  That isn't going to be there until next year. I think Daddy would like to go back just for that.  He seemed to REALLY like it based on the amount of pictures he was taking.

Day 3 was Magic Kingdom.  Although we planned on heading straight to Space Mountain since it was the one ride we didn't get to go on 2 years ago, we were able to still ride a couple other attractions before hitting Space Mountain for the first time of the day and it was AWESOME!   Well worth the wait.  Our cousins Jay, Royce, and Hailey joined us, too, which was cool.  It's a whole side of our family we'd never met before.  We hit most of the big favorites: Dumbo, It's a Small World, the Haunted Mansion.   The one that we didn't ride was Big Thunder Mountain because it was closed.  Oh well.  We did ride the log ride, too, but just once.  We even stayed to watch the Electrical Parade, which we didn't get to see 2 years ago.  Wow, that was a long day.

After that we cooled off in the pool at the hotel the next morning, then hit the road again, stopping at the Chicken store which Daddy liked to cheer about.  It was pretty good, but not as good as the chicken on the way home.  That was some seriously good chicken.  They really know how to eat down south, don't they?   Oh man, I almost forgot the BBQ place we stopped at on the way down.  THAT was good.  Daddy really enjoyed his lunch.  Anyway...we headed down to Naples for the second half of our vacation.

Fabi joined us in Naples.  We had a nice dinner where I ate a whole lobster and loved it.  Shawn and Fabi got engaged at the pier where we saw jellies, a few cow nose rays, a dolphin, and a nice sunset.

We had a couple days at the beach where we swam to the sandbar.  I was a regular free diver with my mask and snorkel.  I found a live sea star, a lightning whelk, a hermit crab, and countless sand dollars.   We capped off the week with a boat ride around Naples and out to the Gulf where we saw lots of big houses, cool boats, a bunch of brown pelicans, a few dolphins, a crab, a bald eagle aaaaaaaaand.....that was about it.    Whew!  I know there were more details to the trip that i may not have mentioned.  Maybe Dom and Lia can fill in the blanks.  Thanks, Nana and Papa.

Dominic: Vacation was a blast.  From Universal Studios to NASA to Disney and a few days at the "beach house" in Florida.  My favorite part was probably the Superman ride at Universal and meeting him right after the ride.  We must have talked to him for 3 minutes.  He was cool.  We got our picture with him, too.  I really liked NASA, too.  I especially liked the room where we felt like we were at the launch of a rocket where the seats shook and the windows rattled.  It was really cool.   At the beach, I spent a lot of time snorkeling in the surf watching the fish and stuff.

Lia:  I had lots of fun on vacation, too.  Although Daddy probably mostly remembers the last leg of our 1400 mile trip home where he had to pull over to yell at me.  No warning or anything.  I thought Daddy had to warn me that he was going to pull the car over.  I guess not.  I did have a lot of fun before the last few hours and few hundred miles, though.

I had lots of fun with Bella, even though we fought like sisters much of the time.  I finally got to go on One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish, which I had been talking about for weeks leading up to vacation.   We all got magic wands at Harry Potter world in Universal, which was cool.
